Fish close to the boat

This scurvy Solopreneur's guide to hauling in clients

Sometimes, landing new business feels like one of those deep sea fishing trips where the guy spends 8 hours hauling in a 250kg marlin, only for the line to break as they pull it into the boat.

Even worse? it can feel as though there’s not a single nibble out there at all.

I've had moments in my solo journey where I forgot a simple truth: the fish closest to the boat are the easiest to catch.

This expertly designed visual is how I think about business development as a Solopreneur:

Which fish are closest to the boat?

There are plenty of fish out there, even in the deep sea of cold outreach.

BUT

I’ve noticed a few things to be true, the further from the boat I go fishing:

  • longer to reel in

  • more luck involved

  • harder to know what’s on the other end.

Whenever I feel I’m approaching a revenue dip, I refocus on the easy wins:

  1. Reactivating past clients

  2. Selling a new offer to current clients

  3. Asking for referrals

  4. Following up with old prospects

By fishing smart, you save time and boost your success rate.

We’re going deep (pun intended) on this inside The Solopreneurs Breakthrough Club starting next week. The crew will get all my playbooks to get back on the radar with past clients, develop an offer that sells, & help prospects make a decision.

If you want 60 days of accountability and a team in your corner to land your next big fish (okay, last one, I swear), reply here, and I’ll hold a spot for you.
